IPOH will host the country’s first international conference on solid waste management that is partly sponsored by the European Union (EU).
Perak Education, Local Government, Housing and Public Transport Committee chairman Nga Kor Ming said participants from 13 countries would attend the EU-Asia Solid Waste Management conference from Oct 28 to Oct 30.
He said the participating countries included Belgium, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Denmark, Germany, England, Singapore and Spain.
“It is an honour to be the host for this international conference and we welcome all our guests,” Nga said.
The conference, he said, was a joint effort of the state government, EU and other bodies such as the Ipoh city council.
“We hope the council will be able to benefit from the discussions at the event.
“We hope we can come out with an environmentally friendly, effective and beneficial way of disposing our garbage,” he added.
Nga said the conference was one of 20 proposals approved by the EU, adding that the EU received a total of 189 proposals worldwide.
Registration for the workshop can be done at www.ea-swmc.org.
