Standardised parking coupons to be used
STARTING April 1, 11 of the 15 local councils in Perak will use standardised parking coupons.
State Education, Local Govern-ment, Housing and Public Trans-port Committee chairman Nga Kor Ming said that only the Selama, Lenggong, Pengkalan Hulu and Kerian councils would not use the coupons.
He said motorists in Selama, Lenggong and Pengkalan Hulu were exempted from paying parking fees in line with the state’s policy to alleviate the burden of people in rural areas.
Standardised coupons in Kerian will be used only next year as the council there has signed an agreement with a private company to collect parking fees.
Nga was speaking to reporters in Ipoh recently after chairing the Local Government Committee meeting.
He also said that collection time on Saturday for all local councils had been shortened to between 8am and 1pm from the current 8am and 6pm.
The collection time from Mondays to Fridays is however maintained at between 8am and 6pm.
On another matter, Nga said those wanting to trim or cut down trees with trunks of 8m or more in diameter must first obtain the approval of their respective councils with immediate effect.
He said this reflected the state’s commitment to protect the environment.
He announced that 100,000 trees and 120,000 flowering plants would be planted by local councils in the state this year.
“Our vision is to make Perak green,” Nga added.
He also announced that all local councils in the state had agreed to issue licences to pasar malam traders to sell original DVDs, VCDs and MP3s to create more job opportunities.
Previously, such traders were required to operate from permanent premises.
